We are happy to report that plans for our festival progress smoothly. If you are connected to the internet and have monitored our website,

www.swiss-sangerfest-tacoma-2014.org , you have seen the development of what us in store for Sängerfest 2014.

 

We are excited to confirm that we will have four guest groups participating in our festival. The Edmonton Swiss Men's Choir, and Wildrose Yodel Club from Alberta, Canada will be a part of the Grand Chorus, as well as performing independently. Two groups from Switzerland will entertain us as well. The Quartet Family Weingart, www.jodler-egge.ch , and Chörli, www.choer.li , are on tap to provide singing and yodeling several times.

 

With internet technology, we are proud to be the first host society to offer the ability to participating singers to access and download their singing parts for the Grand Concert songs. We will soon have links on the website to access and download pronunciations of the songs. Another first is the ability to register, order, and pay for badges online. For those who wish to order a badge by mail and pay for it by check, that is also an option. I have attached a copy of the badge order form for those of you receiving this bulletin by snail mail. As you can see from the order form, we have set the badge prices at $280 for non-singers, and $230 for singers.

 

The non-singer excursion will be a cruise aboard the Royal Argosy,  

departing and returning to the Museum of Glass dock, only a five minute shuttle or fifteen minute walk from our host hotel, The Hotel Murano. Aboard the cruise to Quartermaster Harbor on Vashon Island, you will enjoy a luncheon buffet set on linen covered tables, with china and silverware, while being entertained by Quartet Family Weingart and Chörli.

The Royal Argosy will accommodate up to 600 passengers, and non badge holders will have the opportunity to buy tickets for the cruise.

 

The organization for the production of the Souvenir Book is progressing with Vicki (Imhof) Nickinovich in charge. We will have the ad order forms and pricing available soon as well as our requests to the participating choirs for their photo's and biographies.

 

Recently, I have received comments and questions through our club members rather than directly from the inquirer. This puts our club member in an uncomfortable position. I would appreciate it if anyone with questions or input would contact me personally and encourage them to do so. I assure you I don't bite. We are so excited with all the help that is constantly being offered by our greater Swiss Communities, that will contribute to making Sängerfest 2014 a memorable success.

We are both so busy.
I wrote you that I can not attend this evening the Choir practice because I am invited by Urs Strausak to a reception at his Residence this evening after the Lounch of the new book "Swiss Immigrants in Canada".

To help you to make a decision this evening to inform all that you will take over the Presidency until the end of the Tacoma 2014 Festival, here again my and Marie-Louise's promise (she is recuperating from a flue but will not attend this evening):
  • Marie-Louise will serve as Past-President with her large experience for on entire year and help you whenever she is able too;
  • I will be your Vice-President and step in whenever you request this from me; I shall also write all those e-mails to the Choir members which Alexandra B., the Secretary of the SSV, is not able to do;
  • Alexandra B., Secretary of the SSV and I will share the work of the "Secretary" of the Choir until the end of your presidency.
  • Trudy B. will be a great back up and did already start to work for the Choir.
  • Karin, President of the SSV and Mirjam Mai, Vice-President of the SSV will always be on your side;
  • last but not least: you are excellent in working out compromises with Conductor Dubravko Pajalic.
Please call this evening after telling them that you will take over as President, your next meeting with all who committed themselves at the AGM 2013 (see attached minutes of the 2013 AGM) on 6:45pm on Thursday, November 14th, i.e. before the rehearsal in the entry room.  I shall prepare the Agenda etc.

1. Welcome by Chair Rolf/minutes taker Melanie/apologies/approval of Agenda/Special Guest

 Melanie Crook starts AGM 2013 at 7:10pm with welcoming the 24 attending active Choir members; 4 apologies: Margaret S., Alfred E., Hans-Peter Wacker, Kimi H., Karin Kapp. Melanie proposes a less formal form for the meeting: no motions/seconders of motion/votes are used, but after discussions, the Assembly would decide by consensus. She hands chair over to Rolf. Agenda is approved with small addition.  Chair welcomes Vice-President of SSV: Mirjam Mai.

ACTIONS TAKEN
 •Melanie Crook takes minutes of the AGM.
•Conductor Dubravko Pajalic will join at 7:30pm
•Assembled active Choir members agree to informal process of meting.
•Rolf Brulhart chairs the rest of the meeting.

2. Address by resigning President M.-L.Hanna
 •Marie-Louise reads a shortened part of her written report which she will forward to the SSV . She expressed that she is impressed with the way our choir had developed and improved. She is happy to see so many present.
•Melanie C. expresses in the name of all present the deep gratitude to Marie-Louise for her outstanding leadership over the last three years, the many innovations she introduced and being a real friend for whoever needed her help.
 
ACTIONS TAKEN
•Rolf will attach M.-L. Hanna's entire Report to this AGM minutes.
•Melanie C. gives Marie-Louise Hanna a bouquet of flowers, a gift certificate and the short ceremony was accompanied by a long applause from all attendees.

3. Financial statement & Budget 2013/14 

 1.With the changes of the Constitution/By-Laws of the SSV in 2012, the two Sections of the SSV (Choir and Outdoors Club) do not have anymore its separate Treasurer; the Treasure of SSV (Connie Buechler) takes care of all.  Connie B. apologized for not attending. Melanie C informed that Connie 
2.Is  is  expected to identify clearly the choir part of the 2013/2014 Budget
3.of of the SSV and forward the information  to the relevant choir members.

ACTIONS TAKEN
 •The Treasurer of the SSV, Connie Buechler will present a financial statement which includes the Choir at the next SSV-Board meeting.

4. Important Liaisons for the Choir
 •The continuing Liaison between the Vancouver Swiss Choir and the Board of Directors of the SSV is guaranteed as in the past with the participation of different Choir members in all meetings of the SSV Board.
•Liaison with the 28th USSSPC Sängerfest 2014 in Tacoma is guaranteed re all musical/performance aspects by Conductor Dubravko Pajalic; Past-USSSPC President Rolf B. will be responsible for the duties specified in the USSSPC Constitution re Tacoma.  Melanie had previously volunteered to be responsible for all other aspects, but now, due to family commitments, this will be periodic.  Andrea S. stepped in.
•Liaison with the "Swiss Herald" and "Swiss Review". The later is essential to reach the thousands of Swiss in the lower Mainland who are not participating in any of the 5 Swiss Organizations. Silvia Schoch, Treasurer of the Victoria Swiss Society is the newly appointed Review-Editor for Canada.

ACTIONS TAKEN
•M.-L.Hanna will continue to attend for one more year; Rolf B. attends as Delegate to the Council of Swiss Abroad in Bern; Karin Kapp will attend as President of the SSV.
•Andrea Stolte and Melanie Crook for a limited time will be responsible for all logistic/administrative aspects and will form in Jan. a "Tacoma-Workforce".
•Melanie C. will write the articles for the "Swiss Herald" and the "Swiss Review". Rolf B. will inform her about the deadlines of the "Swiss Review".

5. Keeper of Trachten & Choteli

 The chair informed the attendees that Ingrid Nagy is no more in the position to be the Keeper of the abut 10 Trachten and 7 Choteli. Anne-Marie Spaeti and Margit Moxon may be able to take over from Ingrid but needs to know more details.  Rolf's idea to use the newly acquired lookers of the SSV is unpractical since the material needs dry storage locations.

ACTIONS TAKEN
•Elisabeth Appenzeller will contact Ingrid N. to get the exact numbers of Trachten and Choteli and will inform Anne-Marie Spaeti and Margit Moxon .
•Elisabeth/Anne-Marie/Margit will report back to the Choir timely.

6. Music Archive
 •It is the feeling of the attendees that Margaret Spengler will continue as Archivar of all music notes of the Choir and Dubravko P. expressed his thanks to Margaret and hope that she will continue.
•There is still the cabinet full of Swiss Music at the German Alpenclub. The key was lost and the cabinet is locked. Nobody took yet the responsibility to check it out.

ACTIONS TAKEN
•Marie-Louise Hanna and Elisabeth Appenzeller will talk to Margaret Spengler and report back to the Choir timely.
•Mirjam Mai agreed to do that contact the Vancouver Alpenclub and verify the Cabinet etc.
•Margeret Spengler will decide after analyzing the content at Alpenclub whether of not we need an alternative storage. 

7.Coordination Mechanism to replace the President's function

The Chair reported that nobody stepped so far forward to take over the Presidium of the Choir from Marie-Louise H. or the Secretary position or any other former "Executive-duty". As a possible coordination mechanism, Rolf proposed that for the time being the Liaison individuals with the Board of the SSV will meet at the date/time of the those meeting earlier to coordinate main aspects. The Secretary of the SSV, Alexandra B. may be willing to become the "Corresponding Secretary" of the Choir.  Marie-Louise H. insists that somebody or something has to coordinate/keep together everything the Choir does. At least a "Rooming file" has to be maintained by somebody which includes mainly any correspondence pertaining to the entire Choir.  However, she will not act as "Secretary". Melanie suggested that every "Event Group" will be fully responsible for action of their event from beginning to end; and presented a sign-up Board for it.
 •Since presently is no functioning Executive, no future meeting has been arranged.

ACTIONS TAKEN
•Rolf B. will contact the Secretary of the SSV, Alexandra B. and report back to the Choir timely.
•The surge for a Choir President continues by Rolf and others.
•Judy Boxler, computer scientist, offered to create a electronic tool which becomes the warehouse for our emails and perhaps photos etc.

9. Three Christmas Performances

Dubravko P. informed Assembly that all the Christmas songs has been selected by some members of the Choir and him.
•Seniors' Christmas Luncheon Concert on Saturday, Dec. 7th at 11 am.
•Vancouver Christmas Market Performance on Thursday, Dec.12th at 7pm.
•VanDusen Botanical Gardens Performance on Thursday, Dec.19th at 7pm.


ACTIONS TAKEN
Dubravko will work closely together with the following lead-persons:
•*Riccarda Willi offered to be lead-person for Seniors' Christmas Luncheon perform.
•Melanie Crook offered to be lead-person for the Vancouver Christmas Market perform and coordinate all aspects.
•Andrea Stolte offered to be lead-person for the VanDusen Botanical Garden and coordinate all together with Dubravko P.
10. Annual Spring Concert

Dubravko P. suggests that the date of the Spring Concert is in the right distance to the Tacoma Saengerfest July 10-13th, 2014.
•Rolf suggests to invite the Austrian Vancouver Melodie Choir and hold the concert at their location since our musical repertoire will be mostly from the 2014 Tacoma Songbook and therefore liked by Swiss-Canadian as well as Austrian-Canadian audiences. The Hall of the Vancouver Austrian Club in Richmond has kitchen, stage and great dance floor.
•Dubravko P. proposes as possible alternative to perform in a Church in Burnaby to hold the cost of renting low.

ACTIONS TAKEN
•Riccarda Willi offered to start the contacts with "the Austrians" with the help of her husband who often meets with his Austrian counterparts and report back to the Choir timely.  Marie-Louise Hanna and Andrea Stolte offered to support Riccarda Willi and for a small "Choir Concert  2014Task-force". They will report to Choir timely.
•Dubravko Pajalic will provide detailed information re Church in Burnaby. He will inform the "Choir Concert 2014 Task-force"
11. 28th Sängerfest in Tacoma, July 10th -13th

•Dubravko P. is pleased about what he has achieved until know with us and will continue the rehearsals re 2014 Tacoma Songbook in January 2014 again.  He is confident that we have still plenty of time re preparation of our performance on Saturday, July 12th, 2014.  He asked Rolf B. to find out from "Tacoma" when the Practice files will be on their Festival Website.
•Rolf suggested that he will handle all the issues between the 2014 Tacoma Executive Committee and Sunday, July 13th;
•However, a Liaison Person in addition to Conductor Dubravko P. is needed for the time being; and
•In Spring 2014 a "Tacoma-Team" has to be formed.
•Soon, the Choir has to negotiate with the SSV a "Tacoma Budget"


ACTIONS TAKEN
•Rolf will contact 2014 Tacoma Festival President Greg Vesey re Practice files immediately.  The website of the Festival ishttp://swiss-sangerfest-tacoma-2014.org/
•Rolf is liaison between 28th Sängerfest Executive Committee of Tacoma and our Choir;
•Andrea Stolte will be the Liaison Person for all not-music and not Sunday July 13th related issues;
•Karin Kapp will forward the issue of a "Tacoma 2014 Budget for the Choir" timely.

12. Swiss National Day Celebration 2014

Special Guest, Vice-President of the SSV,  Mirjam Mai, informed the Assembly about presently ongoing reflections within the Board of Directors of the SSV regarding the 2014 Swiss National Celebration(s).  Dubravko P. mentioned as one possibility a Public Park which would be free.   Rolf warned re hasty decisions!

ACTIONS TAKEN
•Karin Kapp will keep the Choir informed about the development of this discussion re 2014 specifics of the Swiss National Day Celebration.
•Rolf B. will stay involved re this issue.

13. President/Secretary

The Chair urges the Assembly again to come forward with nominations for a President and nominations for a Secretary.  No results …..for the moment.
 •See above under 7.
14. Other issues
•Dubravko Pajalic, Conductor of the Choir, thanks all attending and is convinced that the Vancouver Swiss Choir will improve even more.
•A special Thanks goes to Rosi Schuepbach for all the hard work she does for the choir, for her reliability and commitment.  Rosi  urges the "Choir" to inform her for logistical reasons far earlier when time of meetings are changed!  She further informs that the auditorium will be fumigated re bed bugs and should be available next week.
•Dubravko expressed interest in singing a the Plaza of Nations where we even may get paid; or/and on Saturdays at Granville Island, where the Canadian Government pays a stipend.
•Many members would like to start rehearsal earlier during Winter. 
•Melanie C. suggests extra rehearsal may be needed. Dubravko offered his house for specify Voice-Practices. 
•Mirjam Mai urges the Choir to participate again in the 2014 European Festival on Saturday, May 31st/Sunday, June 1st, 2014.  Choir members/performers are entering free as do Voluneers working 4 or more hours.  Dubravko P. says it is good exposure.
•Marie-Louise H. will provide Melanie C with the list of cookie bakers who she will phone, and Riccarda will provide her home and lunch for packers on Dec. 3rd.
•Chair thanks again retiring President Marie-Louise H. and all the Executive members who work so very hard for us all and all the Singers who came in such large numbers!
•The Chair thanks conductor Dubravko Pajalic in the name of all active Singers for his restless search for new Swiss music.
•The Choir/Executive/delegated person will follow Rosi Schuepbach's demand.

ACTIONS TAKEN
•Rolf and Mirjam M. will maintain the direct contact with the Board of the EurofestBC Society and the Vancouver Swiss Choir incl. SSV.
•The "Valley Group" will decide what suits them best and report timely to the conductor Dubravko P. and the Choir.
•Choir has to follow up on Dubvravko's offer re Voice-specific practices in his home.
•Melanie Crook and Riccarda Willi are organizing details regarding "Christmas Cookies" for Seniors Christmas Luncheon bags.

15. Adjournment of 2013 AGM of Choir

No other issue was brought forward and everyone was eager to start the rehearsal of the Christmas Songs!

Attached I send you information from our new Editor of the Regional News pages of the  "Swiss Review", Silvia Schoch silv.schoch@gmail.com in Victoria.  Thanks to her and her predecessor, we have now six pages for the Regional News in four of the six issues.

Very important are two things:
  • the deadlines for Submission of text/artwork/photos, and
  •  we all need more advertising to sell in order to maintain the six pages of Regional News!

The Swiss Review reports on issues which interest all Swiss living abroad and strengthens their ties with Switzerland. Special emphasis is given to politics, so that Swiss citizens abroad can exercise their voting rights in a competent and informed manner. Because it contains government information and announcements, the Swiss Review also serves as a binding official publication organ. The magazine is denominationally and politically neutral and is produced six times per year.

Four times per year (February, April, June and October),   The Swiss Review carries an additional eight page Regional News Canada complement in the middle of the magazine.
It is produced by the local editor and informs about activities of Swiss associations, announcements by official representations in Canada and other local information, relevant to the Swiss living in Canada.

Every issue reaches approximately 15,000 households by mail and a further 7,000 registered electronic recipients.

Total Circulation approx. 22,000 households in Canada. 

Publication Cycle six times per year, four times per year with eight-page Regional News Canada complement in the middle of the Magazine.

Hi Dubravko,

I apologize to you and everybody who read my below email.
All what I had in mind was to make it easier for some of the not so computer/tec savy.
I am in total agreement with you that your rehearsals of those songs starting in January again and your interpretation are essential and the foundation.  Attendance of all rehearsals in the few weeks leading to the 28th Saengerfest crucial to guarantee success of our Choir in Tacoma, but also before at our Spring concert.
These files provide some help to get familiar with the songs between now and January, since we all aggreed with you to concentrate now on the excellent Christmas file you handed out last Thursday.

dear Rolf,
it is of utmost importance to treat these practice files only as a helping tool, mostly for people who don't read music. they are NOT SUBSTITUTE for rehearsals, nor should be treated as firm interpretation.
However, i would suggest that singers spend some time with these files now until Christmas, as we will go over the festival songs each rehearsal, at least one of them, based on the order in the book.
Our main goal is to learn Christmas program as soon as possible, so regular attendance is a must. Based on your very positive comments from Choir AGM, I have and will continue to have very high expectations regarding performances, practices, style and interpretation, just to mention a few aspects.

Many thanks for your email.

First, I find it  important that somebody identifies for the first time the unique role the Vancouver Swiss Choir occupies amongst the different local non-governmental Swiss organizations, perhaps with the exception of the Vancouver Dorfmusik.  You are also correct regarding the qualitative and quantitative improvements of this Choir over the past few years.

Second, it is good to hear that highlighting the Switzerland (as the first member country of the EuroFestBC Society) was positively received by many in addition to the Consulate General of Switzerland in Vancouver. 

Third, thank you especially for mentioning the relevance of the "Youth Group" under the leadership of Aio Haeberli und Mirjam Weiss and the endless support and guidance of Deputy Consul General, Hans-Peter Willi for the success of the "Swiss Tent".

Fourth, your reflections regarding the  role of the Swiss Society of Vancouver vis-a-vis the EuroFestBC Society is well taken.  I am confident that steadily more and more Swiss abroad  will recognize the increasing relevance of "Europe" for our Homeland Switzerland but also for our new chosen country Canada.  The political agreement on key elements of a Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA) between Canada and the EU reached two days ago points in the same direction.

Dear all,
I would also like to thank all of you for attending the choir AGM and for stepping up for some of these essential positions.
The Vancouver Swiss Choir is an important and very active part of the Swiss Society and basically our only connection to other communities (through guest appearances and concerts) and way to showcase our unique culture to a broad public audience. The success of the choir in the past few years hasn't gone unnoticed and resulted in several invitations as guest choir - this is something to be very proud of. The only way to continue this success story, is for the choir members to take on the responsibility of the choir future and the upcoming events. This is no impossible task and it is great to see that singers have come forward to take on those tasks.
I also wanted to give some additional information regarding the European Festival because I had the feeling that I didn't deliver the message correctly and also had to look into some numbers again.
Yes, there is some payment required to perform at the festival but that should be of no concern to the choir. The SSV has been taking care of this and will continue doing so. The 100 advance tickets that have to be purchased by performers have been traditionally given free of charge to our SSV volunteers and the rest has been sold at a reduced price to Society members. This has never caused a loss in the past and was therefore continued.
The European Festival is a great event to showcase the unique Swiss culture, clothing, food and music to a variety of ethnic groups and since the Festival is constantly growing to an ever increasing audience. This year, for the first time, it has been a 2-day festival and the SSV required a huge number of volunteers to organize our appearance as the first ever Featured Country at the festival. This has been a huge success for the SSV and the Consulate and we are proud of the Youth Group that was mainly involved in the organization of the Swiss Tent activities. We have received many positive comments and we set the expectations for the next featured country pretty high. All of this and also the profit made by the food booth did not cause the Board of the SSV to question the fact that the ticket sale 'only' broke even. Of course, there is always the possibility of selling the tickets at the regular door price ($10 instead of $5) but it has also been the intention of the Society to make those festival tickets available to their members at a cheaper price to encourage them to support our appearance there. By the way, there are never tickets left over - we always sell all of them.
The Board would like to encourage the choir to keep on performing at the European Festival because we view it as a great way to be involved in the European activities in Metrovancouver and to stay in touch with other communities. The SSV has been a major pillar within the EuroFest BC Society that organizes the festival since the beginning 16 years ago.
Please think about the performance again and let me know the final decision in November.

Interesting is that the involvement of the Alliance Française de Vancouver (a governmental agencies of France, paid by the French Federal Government similar to the "Goethe Institute in Vancouver) is since many years disipated and that of any local French organization most difficult to introduce.

as a historical fact and curiosity item, European festival started as an initiative of former director of Alliance Francaise in Vancouver (Cambie street), and first organization committee was with members of France, Slovak, Check, Dutch and Croatian community (myself included). First meetings were in Hungarian Community hall on Kingsway, and first event was in Alliance Francaise on Cambie street. French had a cello/piano duet, I performed with croatian choir, there was photo exhibit and so forth. we also had a food fair and BBQ there. attendance was some 60-70 people.
this is how it started! I believe there is still a photo documentation in the Alliance Francaise about it.
later i was engaged with other choirs, including  Swiss, and didn't actively participate in organization anymore. This is  ow a grand event, and mostly thanks to some early organizers, like Marika (Slovak) who was pushing boundaries of it every year.

I am organizing this Friday, Oct. 25th from 2pm-3pm in the Garden Room of the "Purdy Pavilion" of the UBC Hospital for about 50 permanent Residents of the Pflegeheim/Extended Care Unit a real
OKTOBERFEST!
  • the "Edelweiss Musikanten" (Brass Band) of Karl Schindler will entertain;
  • Erna gave me already her antique Joch with three large cowbells/one is a Triechle and other beautiful posters;
  • Anne-Marie S. & Andrea F. gave me also already two Dirndl-Kostueme;
  • Riccarda & Hans-Peter gave me already excellent German Posters;
  • I decorated already the room with mostly Swiss decorations; but if you should have Bavarian and/or Munchen and/or German Flags/Posters or other Artifacts, I would be very happy (all will be given back);
  • I decorated already with the help of some Residents the large Garden Room: most is "Swiss"-decoration material......but the Seniors love it!
What I need now is some of you who would come in their beautiful Trachten/Chuteli as in former years when Maria Logan always come with some of you.
The Residents love to see your individual Trachten/Chuteli and perhaps touch the seldom material.  As MC will I reserve time to talk about the different stiles of the different Cantons.
We shall sing together some typical Lieder many Residents know (The Happy Wanderer; Edlelweiss; etc.) and perhaps some of our own assuming we have at least one person of each voice........the "Edleweiss Musikanten" will acompaign us and we will know Songs they are performing.

I shall answer any of your questions (where to Park etc.) on Thursday at the rehearsal.

Thank you very much for your generous  offer "to send out emails of behalf of the choir" in the future!  Knowing how professional, efficient and reliable you are, the future of the Choir is in good hands.                            For your information, I attached the 2013 AGM agenda of Oct. 17th; it was accepted by the 22 attending active Choir members in this form.  Item 7. with the foot-note remark may be of special interest for you.

Here a brief summary where the Vancouver Swiss Choir stands:
  • No President or Secretary yet:  From the minutes of the "AGM 2013" of the Vancouver Swiss Choir on Oct. 17th, 2013 (to be sent out early next week by me), you will see that nobody stepped forward -yet- to take over the Secretary's or President's position.    However, I am glad to tell you that most likely and with some luck  we shall be able to announce the name of the new President at the next choir rehearsal on Oct. 24th willing to serve at least to the end of the 28th Saengerfest, wich takes place  July 10-13, 2014 in Tacoma!
  • Judy Boxler who is professional in electronic communication [computer scientist],  offered kindly at the AGM to be the 'archivist' of certain electronic information and creating a paper trail of it (you two will sort it out timely together with Marie-Louise who knows exactly why this is so very important).
  • Past-President Marie-Louise Hanna  offered generously to remain active in the Executive  to the AGM 2014.
  • Conductor Dubravko Pajalic expressed its satisfactions over the progresses the Choir maid in the last year and is looking forward to a new year.
  • Rolf B. acts temporarily as "Secretary and co-ordination" of/for the Choi until the new team is operational.  Please, address for the time being all questions to me and do not take any actions before everybody is on the same page of which you will be informed by me hopefully by end of the month.

B.  Agenda of the 2013 "Choir-AGM"

  1. Welcome  -  Thanks to resigning President and members of the Executive  - Approval of proposed Chair of AGM and Agenda
  2. Brief address by resigning President Marie-Louise Hanna
  3. Financial Aspects incl. Budget of Choir: are now all be the responsibility of the Treasurer of the SSV, Connie Buechler. 
  4. Liaison persons to SSV-Board: Since Rolf B. attends most meetings of the SSV-Board as Delegate to the ASR in Bern, he can be one of those liaisons. The second liaison is Karin K. who attends also most meetings of the SSV as their President. 
  5. Liaison persons to 27th Pacific Coast Swiss Singing & Yodeling Festival 2014 in Tacoma: Melanie C. offered already to take over this function.  Rolf B. will be only involved in specific aspects due to his position as "Past President of the USSSPC".
  6. Liaison person to "Swiss Herald" and "Swiss Review": Hopefully, Melanie C. will take over this position.
  7. Keeper/Archivist of Trachten & Chuteli:  ??????????
  8. Keeper/Archivist of Music sheets:  Hopefully, Margaret S.  will continue to do it.
  9. Coordination Meetings of the Choir (formerly the meetings of the Executive):  Will take place parallel to the meetings of the SSV-Board either immediately before or/and after.  Past President Marie-Louise H. offered already to remain as Adviser and offer all her past knowledge and files.
  10. Secretary: if needed especially for sending out e-mails to all choir members will be the Secretary of the SSV, Alexandra B.

  13.  27th Pacific Coast Swiss Singing & Yodeling Festival 2014 Tacoma: during the preparation time, Melanie C. and Dubravko P. will be in charge, . A special "Tacoma-Team" will be created in Spring.

Great, this will be good.

Regarding the Tacoma festival, looks like they have provided practice files for songs on their site,  and we should have a link to it. (So I don't need to do it!:) )

I will have a number of Christmas songs to distribute. We went through the program last night so it will take some time to generate all of them, but I have some already.

One option is that I package html file and MP3s in one bundle and you post it somewhere on the site.

I can send sample to Aio and you, Konrad so you can see how I would like it. These files are small but will be many of them, so we will need at least 100 MB until Christmas and way less after that.

We had a wonderful celebration for Maria Logan.  22 singers were able to come and I know that the others, unable to come, were with us in spirit.  We will miss Maria!
Here are some dates to put on your calendar.  In order to get the best dates, I applied for an early date for the Christmas Market.  They were so impressed with our presence on the Swiss Nation day last year that they asked us to come again on a weekend for a Nation Day.  I let the new President and committee decide on this one.  I only took one Thursday performance to secure a good date.
Here is what we is on our calendar so far:
July 17 (wednesday) WESTERN THEMED BBQ - Noon - at the Assessment center where we rehearse.  As promised we will sing in Chotteli for the people of the Center. The following singers signed up:

August 1st Thursday - Swiss National Day in Agassiz at the Fluckiger Farm - Vroni & Hans Flukiger as well as Georgia & Martin Flukiger are hosting this great Celebration - 7:00 pm 1211 Tramner Road Agassiz  V0M 1A2- as usual we each bring a salad or dish or dessert for the buffet table as well as our own drinks - the sausages and buns are generously offered by our hosts.  There will be coffee and tea.  You can bring your spouse or a guest.  Out of town guests you may host are also welcome just let Andrea know how many people will be coming.  Call Andrea to sign up for this great National Day celebration at the farm.  604 796-1291 or e-mail flukiger-family@hotmail.com - it is appreciated if you bring your own dishes.  Wear a Chotteli to add to the festive Swiss National Day celebration.  Bring your Concert folder so that we can sing a few great songs, Margaret will bring the sing-along leaflets.  I will miss it this year - my daughter is getting married.

An event with invitation on Facebook exists since April 8th; the same with an invitation on Meet-Up. You see, our promotion has been running for quite some time - even without the Herald. The concert has been announced in the last issue, though.

Hello singers;
Here is Ric's latest update.  Some details may still change.
It has been proposed that our singers join the Breakfast buffet at the Hotel on Monday morning.  As they already serve another group,  we have been invited to join the breakfast buffet for a $10 fee instead of scrambling around to find a breakfast place somewhere.  I think it is a great idea and will keep us at the hotel until departure for the parade float.  If anyone wants to opt out of the breakfast PLEASE let me know. For now, I took the liberty to sign-up all (Victoria) singers to the Breakfast, they have to know by Friday.  So let me know only if you opt OUT or want to ADD non singers to the Breakfast.  I need to let them know numbers by Friday!
Dubravko will direct you for a rehearsal on Sunday late afternoon.  For the flow of event you have some information below.  
I wish you all an excellent rehearsal tonight, unfortunately I will not be there.  I am also still too sick to go to Victoria, I regret this very much, this is such a unique event I was looking forward to.

Okay here is the plan for the long weekend here in Victoria.

People arriving in the afternoon with ferry.
We will have Van at 1.30 and 2.30 at the ferry to pick up walk on  people.

I will be at the Hotel to say grueci.


Driving to Hotel let them get rooms booked by all of you.

Free afternoon until 5.30 when Door open to ball room.

Dinner served around 6.15.

Dinner is free for all performer's. Guest will pay $ 25.00 like our members price.

Performers table will go first.

After Dinner book signing from Lucy Gething.

About 8 Pm Concert start with Anthem Swiss and Canadian.

About 20 Min Accordion group playing.

After Vancouver choir about 15 20 min.

Then special performers approx. 30 , Then choir another few songs,  then perhaps some duets etc. then Accordion group playing for Dancing.

And then we will see what else happen.

This Programme is not written in Stone. There is room to change  Things.

I see what your Conductor has in mind He will get this e-mail do.

There is the Restaurant available for practice, it will be closed  from 3 pm on for public.

We will have a 50/50 draw and a Silent auction on the Concert  Dinner , therefore tell everybody bring cash or check book.

There will be also a cash bar for beer, wine,  pop

The evening will be finished when nobody is in the ball room  anymore. But remember you got to get up early the next morning.

Monday.

Breakfast buffet only if everybody who stays  in the Hotel.is  going . I think this is the best deal you can get for breakfast  that Monday morning.
It will be severed in the ball room where we had the dinner concert.

Please send a E-mail to the Restaurant when you know everybody is  going for the Buffet

Cost $ 10.00 plus tax a person everybody pays for there on.

Time I say  7.30. AM

After breakfast meet at Mayfair mall where the Swiss float will  be.  Its 5 min to walk . I hope every body will wear the  traditional outfit or the T-shirt, had.
You cant miss it its most likely the most decorated on.

We are in Section C 26

We will be start walking around 9.30 Am my guess.
The walking people will be handing out Chocolates and Swiss candy,  I hope still have to confirm with Hanspeter.

There is room on the float for performers and people who are not  able to walk the 4 km down Douglas Street.

The parade is going to be watched by about 50 000 people.

The will be a spot where they judge the float and performances.

the Parade end approx. at 12.30 Pm down by the Museum.

There a School bus will be waiting for the walking people to take  back to the Mayfair mall.

people on the float will ride back with the float.

Back at the Hotel we will be having Lunch Sponsored partly by the  Swiss consulate.

Food  coffee and tea is free for everybody who joined the Parade,  which I think will be everybody from Vancouver. Drinks you pay.

After lunch Walk on people can be driven back to Ferry, I,m  guessing it will be the 5 PM ferry.
Don't forget to make reservation , the once with cars, its going to  be busy.
